Ladies and Gentlemen,

The VBPM project in South Australia is a symbolic one to meet the long-standing aspirations of the majority of Vietnamese refugees in South Australia. It is a privilege to have received such a great support from people within the community for the project. It has strongly demonstrated that the Vietnamese refugees after have settled in on this beautiful land, we have not forgotten of Who we are, Where we come from and Why we have come here.

The purposes of the VBPM project are:

1. To remember those who have lost their lives on the journey.

2. To express our gratitude to the Australian governments and its people who have opened their hearts to the Vietnamese refugees.

3. To remind successive generations of the Vietnamese people in Australia of their root on

“WHY– HOW – WHEN” their ancestors have arrived here.

The term Boat People refers to the horrifying displacement of the Vietnamese people with many traumatic tragedies happened on the seas. The VBPM will be a value-add to the multicultural landscape of Australia highlighting the value of freedom and a historical passage of time of the Vietnamese community establishment in Australia.

To assist those who want to know more about the journey of the Vietnamese Boat People, a website supplementing the VBPM is to be developed, aimed to provide supporting information resources.

On behalf of the VBPM website development team, once again we sincerely seek your active support and engagement through submitting relevant materials for the VBPM website which can be a recount true story, a reflective writing piece, old photos, video clips, interviews, success stories of Vietnamese refugees in Australia as well as of those successive Australia-born generations etc.
